Telecast has released a Fiber Optics in ENG and SNG White Paper that is a guide to applications, systems integration and field deployments. We developed this guide to assist non-engineering broadcast professionals in making critical decisions during the transition to 100% HDTV programming.

Not since the transition to color nearly a half century ago has the television broadcast infrastructure experienced such a dramatic shift in technology. Because of the vastly increased bandwidth requirements of HDTV signals, fiber optic technology is certain to play an expanding role in program production at all levels – ENG and SNG included.

This white paper looks at today's tape drive technologies for all sizes of organizations. This white paper reviews proprietary Oracle/Sun/STK and IBM drives, which up until recently were considered enterprise, but are now competing relatively poorly with LTO. LTO, including LTO-5 and LTO-4, effectively serves the enterprise, as well as mid-sized organizations. LTO's advantage is, in part, due to its cost effectiveness; the proprietary drives are simply not cost competitive.

HEMEL HEMPSTEAD, England, Feb. 3, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Vislink (LSE:VLK) has announced that it will launch its new Advent Mantis "MSAT" Man Portable Data Terminal, a highly portable tri-band satellite antenna system specifically designed for rapid deployment in hostile environments, at CABSAT 2012.

The system's fully integrated, portable design requires less than five minutes from arrival to satellite acquisition, making it ideal for rapid deployment field applications where there is no time to spare.

Weighing in at only 12.5 kilos, the Advent MSAT is specifically designed to be carried by one person and provides powerful functionality for applications such as secure military communications; special operations, disaster recovery; emergency services; first-on-scene broadcast; and mining operations.

The antenna's 65cm reflector can be used in Ka, Ku and X bands, be powered from either mains or 12VDC operations, and has interchangeable modems. The moment the system arrives on site it can be fully operational in less than five minutes, therefore saving vital time when speed is of the essence.

Vislink Project Leader Ali Zarkesh said, "The Advent MSAT represents the first major new in-house antenna design for the Vislink group and is our first foray into the rapid deployment, lightweight terminal market. This antenna gives us entries not only in the surveillance market but also has applications in the mining sector and first-on-scene news reporting."

The Advent MSAT system can be seen at CABSAT on Stand Number: S1-B31 from 28 February to 1 March.

With the unveiling of the TV Everywhere partnership between Comcast Corp. and Time Warner Inc. in
June 2009, the multi-screen video era formally began. Two prominent service and content providers promised to take high-quality TV programming far beyond the conventional home TV set to a vast array of other video displays,
such as personal computers, laptops, notebooks, video game consoles, iPads, mobile phones, and other
portable devices.

The embrace of this "three screen strategy" highlights
the growing importance of digital video quality.

These challenges can be overcome with an intensified end-to-end QoS+QoE network monitoring approach, from headend to playback device while making sure that all of the
points along the way are well covered.
